Methodology
Shifts are converted to absolute weekly intervals, merged to remove overlaps, split across days, and reduced by per-day breaks. Overtime is allocated proportionally with rounding safeguards so per-day overtime never exceeds that day's hours and weekly totals remain consistent.
Important Disclaimers:
- Pay calculations are estimates only
- Actual pay varies by location, benefits, taxes, and employment terms
- Overtime rules vary by jurisdiction and employment classification
- Balance scores are heuristic and for guidance only
- Commute time and on-call time are not included
- Consult HR/payroll for authoritative calculations

About This Calculator
1. How does the Work Hours Calculator work?
This calculator analyzes your weekly work schedule by converting each shift into absolute week intervals, merging overlaps to prevent double-counting, then allocating unique minutes to each day and applying your breaks. It computes totals, overtime distribution, and work-life metrics with robust rounding safeguards.
2. How is overtime calculated?
Overtime uses your weekly regular-hours limit (default 40h). Any hours beyond this limit are distributed proportionally across working days, with rounding handled so totals stay consistent and per-day overtime never exceeds the day's hours.
3. What is the work-life balance score?
A 0–100 score that drops as weekly hours rise above ~40 and when weekend work appears. It’s a simple heuristic to spot overload; pair it with the recommendations below it.
4. Can I track irregular or shift work schedules?
Yes. Overnight and 24-hour shifts are supported. Overlaps across days are automatically deduplicated before totals are computed.
5. How accurate are the pay calculations?
Estimates are based on your base hourly rate and overtime multiplier. Actual pay varies by taxes, deductions, benefits, and local labor laws. Use this as a planning tool, not payroll.
6. What insights does the calculator provide?
Daily breakdowns, weekly totals, overtime, pay estimates, weekday/weekend split, balance score, and actionable recommendations.
